What changed between classic Twitter and X?
The names, the counts and the layout of the opened post; most of the timeline row stayed similar.
| Element | Classic Twitter (2022) | X (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Post name | Tweet | Post |
| Share | Retweet, Quote Tweet | Repost, Quote |
| Text size on opened post | 23 px | 17 px |
| Under the text | Time · Date · Twitter for iPhone | Time · Date · Views |
| Counts | Separate row: Retweets, Quote Tweets, Likes | In the action row next to each icon |
| Paid checkmark | Twitter Blue (from Nov 2022) | X Premium |
| Logo | Blue bird | X |
How do I date a classic mockup correctly?
Pick a date before December 2022 for the app label, and set views to 0 for anything before that month.
App labels (Twitter for iPhone, Twitter Web App, TweetDeck) disappeared from tweets in December 2022, the same month public view counts arrived. The blue checkmark meant "notable account" until late 2022, then shifted to paid Twitter Blue. A tweet dated 2019 with a view count and a paid-style checkmark mixes eras; fine for fun, wrong for a history lesson.
Can I use the classic layout for a timeline row?
The timeline row layout is shared between eras, because Twitter's feed row barely changed; use it with Classic settings like the app label off.
For an old-style feed, choose Timeline row, set Number style to exact and leave views at 0.
Questions people ask
When did the old Twitter look end?
Twitter began renaming itself X in July 2023: the bird logo was replaced, tweets became posts and retweets became reposts. The app labels such as Twitter for iPhone had already been removed from tweets in December 2022.
Why does the classic layout have a views count option?
Twitter added public view counts in December 2022, so late-2022 tweets show them. Set views to 0 to hide it for older dates.
Is the bird logo the official one?
No. The generator draws its own simple bird shape for the corner logo, so the mockup reads as old Twitter without copying the trademarked logo file.
