Fake Twitter Thread Generator

A thread is a chain of posts by one account, joined by a thin line between the photos. This preset starts with a three-part thread and one reply so you can edit rather than build from zero.

Type 1284, 1,284 or 12.5K. Counts are shortened the way X does it (1.2K, 3.4M) unless you choose exact numbers.

Poll

X polls allow 2 to 4 choices of up to 25 characters. Percentages are rounded so they add up to 100.

Thread and replies

Add posts under the main one. Thread posts reuse your profile and connect with a line in the Timeline layout; replies come from other (fictional) accounts.

Community note

Useful for media-literacy lessons. Please don't write notes that pin false claims on real people.

Mockup label

The label stays on until you tick the box. Read the responsible use guide before sharing anything that names a real person.

Drafts and sharing

Drafts stay in this browser. The share link holds your settings and text (no images) in the part of the address after #, which browsers don't send to any server.

How do threads look on X?

In the feed, the first post appears with a thin vertical line from its photo down to the next post by the same account; replies from others break the chain.

When you open a thread, the post you tapped is shown large, earlier posts in the chain sit above it, and later posts and replies appear below. The timeline layout in this tool draws the chain view; the X post layout draws the opened view with the extras below.

How do I edit the sample thread?

Open Thread and replies in Advanced mode: each post has its own text, time and counts, and you can reorder or remove them.

    • Add thread post adds another post from the main account.
    • Add reply adds a post from another account; give it a name, username, checkmark and photo.
    • The arrow moves a post up; Remove deletes it.
    • Each post can carry one image.

Use the character counter to split long text into numbered parts first, then paste each part in.

What's a good thread mockup for?

Planning a real thread, presenting a content strategy, or showing students how arguments spread across posts.

Social media managers use thread mockups to get sign-off on a launch thread before anything is posted. Teachers use them to show how a claim in post 1 can be quietly walked back in post 6. Whatever the use, keep reply accounts fictional; don't invent replies from real people.

How do I plan a thread that people finish?

Make post 1 a promise, deliver one idea per post, and end with a summary or a next step.

    1. Hook: what the reader gets ("What actually moved our signup numbers").
    2. Body: one point per post, each understandable alone, because people share single posts from threads.
    3. Evidence: an image, number or example in at least every third post.
    4. Close: a recap, a link (in the last post or a reply) and an invitation to reply.

Mock the whole thing up here before posting. Seeing it stacked shows which posts are too long, which repeat, and where an image would help.

    Questions people ask

How many posts can a thread mockup have?

The main post plus up to 10 more. Real X threads can be much longer, but an image taller than about ten posts is hard to read anywhere.

What's the difference between a thread post and a reply here?

Thread posts reuse your profile and, in the timeline layout, connect to the previous post with a gray line. Replies come from other accounts you name yourself and are separated by a divider.

Can I use the opened-post layout for a thread?

Yes. In the X post layout the main post is shown large and the extra posts appear underneath as timeline rows, like the replies section on x.com.
