Short answer
In 2026 X replaced Creator Revenue Sharing with the Original Content Rewards program, which pays eligible Premium creators for qualified impressions from Premium users on original posts; creators can also earn through subscriptions from their followers.
Key takeaways
- Revenue Sharing closed to new members on August 7, 2026, and stopped paying on September 7, 2026.
- Original Content Rewards requires Premium, 500,000 verified Home Timeline impressions in 90 days and 500 verified followers.
- Copied, aggregated or lightly edited content doesn't qualify.
X has paid some creators since July 2023, when Creator Ads Revenue Sharing launched. In 2026 it rebuilt the program around original content. If you're planning to earn from X, here's how it works now.
What happened to Creator Revenue Sharing?
X wound it down in August and September 2026 and replaced it with the Original Content Rewards program.
| Date (2026) | Change |
|---|---|
| August 7 | Revenue Sharing closed to new enrollments |
| August 14 and 28 | Final regular Revenue Sharing payouts |
| September 7 | Revenue Sharing earnings ended |
| September 8 | Existing members could apply to Original Content Rewards |
| Around September 11 | Final Revenue Sharing payout |
Revenue Sharing had evolved since 2023. Its later version paid on engagement from Premium users, with thresholds of 5 million organic impressions in three months and 500 verified followers.
Who qualifies for Original Content Rewards?
Adults in supported countries with a Premium tier, 500,000 verified Home Timeline impressions in 90 days, and 500 verified followers.
The full list from X's help page:
- Live in a supported country and be 18 or older.
- A Personal or Business account in good standing; political and government accounts are excluded.
- An active X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription.
- At least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days (replies don't count).
- At least 500 verified followers.
- Actively posting original content.
X reviews applications, usually within three business days. A rejection can be appealed once, or you can reapply after 90 days.
What counts as original?
Your own voice, expertise, commentary or creativity; not copied, aggregated, lightly edited or cross-posted content.
Clip accounts reposting other people's videos, accounts that rewrite news headlines, and accounts cross-posting the same thing from other platforms are what the change targets.
How are payouts calculated?
On qualified impressions: unique Home Timeline views from Premium subscribers where at least half the post is visible.
Repeat views by the same account, paid or artificial impressions and fraud are excluded. Payouts arrive every two weeks with a $30 minimum, through Stripe or X Money, after identity verification.
What other ways can creators earn?
Subscriptions from followers, sponsorships, and sending traffic to your own products.
Creator subscriptions (formerly Super Follows) let followers pay monthly for subscriber-only posts. Many creators earn more from their own products and sponsorships than from X payouts. See ways to make money on X.
Questions people ask
How much does X pay per 1,000 views?
X doesn't publish a rate. Payouts depend on qualified impressions from Premium subscribers on original posts and change from one pay period to the next.
Do I need X Premium to get paid?
Yes. The Original Content Rewards program requires an active Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription, and creator subscriptions also require Premium.
How do payouts work?
Every two weeks, with a $30 minimum, to a connected Stripe or X Money account after identity verification.
Were Revenue Sharing members moved automatically?
No. From September 8, 2026, existing members had to apply to the new program, though completed ID checks and payout setups carried over.
