How to Subscribe to X Premium (Formerly Twitter Blue)

Short answer

Open Premium in the X menu (or x.com/i/premium_sign_up on the web), pick a tier and billing period, pay, and wait for the checkmark review if your tier includes one; subscribing on the web is usually cheaper than in the app.

Key takeaways

  • Choose the tier first: Basic has no checkmark, Premium and Premium+ do.
  • The checkmark appears only after X reviews your account; changing your name, username or photo during review can delay it.
  • Cancel where you subscribed: on the web, in Apple's subscriptions or in Google Play.

X Premium is the subscription that used to be called Twitter Blue. Signing up takes a couple of minutes; getting the checkmark can take a little longer. Here's the whole process.

Which tier should I pick?

Basic if you only want editing and long posts, Premium if you want the checkmark and reach, Premium+ if you want the fewest ads and top AI limits.

Our Premium explainer has the full comparison. If you plan to earn money from posts, you need at least Premium: X's creator payout program requires an active Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription.

How do I subscribe on the web?

On x.com, open the left menu, click Premium, pick a tier and billing period, and pay by card.

  1. Log in at x.com on a computer.
  2. Click Premium in the left sidebar (or More > Premium).
  3. Choose Basic, Premium or Premium+, then monthly or annual.
  4. Click Subscribe & pay and enter your card details in the checkout.
  5. Wait for the confirmation. Basic features switch on at once.

Web pricing is typically lower than in-app pricing, because Apple and Google take a share of app purchases.

How do I subscribe on iPhone or Android?

Tap your profile picture, then Premium, pick the tier and confirm with your app store account.

  1. Open the X app and tap your profile photo (top left) to open the menu.
  2. Tap Premium.
  3. Pick the tier and billing period.
  4. Confirm the purchase with Face ID, your Apple ID password or Google Play.

App store subscriptions renew through Apple or Google, so you manage and cancel them there, not in X.

When does the checkmark appear?

After X reviews the account, which requires a few basic signs that the account is real and active.

X looks for:

  • A display name and profile photo.
  • A confirmed phone number.
  • Recent activity and an account that's been around a while.
  • No recent changes to your name, username or photo.
  • No signs of misleading or deceptive behavior, such as posing as someone else.

Don't change your profile while the review is pending. If you change your display name, username or photo later, the checkmark may disappear until X reviews the account again.

How do I cancel or change my subscription?

Cancel in the same place you subscribed; your features stay until the end of the paid period.

Where you subscribed How to cancel
x.com Premium > Manage subscription > Cancel
iPhone / iPad Settings app > your name > Subscriptions > X > Cancel
Android Google Play > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > X > Cancel

When the subscription ends, Premium features and the checkmark go away. Long posts you already published stay up, but you can't edit them anymore.

Questions people ask

How long does the checkmark review take?

Often hours, sometimes days. X checks that the account is active, has a confirmed phone number, a profile photo and display name, and isn't misleading.

Will changing my username remove the checkmark?

Changing your display name, username or profile photo after you have the checkmark can remove it temporarily while X reviews the account again.

Can I switch from Premium to Premium+?

Yes. Open Premium in the menu and choose a different tier. On the web you're charged the difference; through app stores the switch follows Apple's or Google's rules.
